All Basketball rules and violations will be governed by National Federation of State High School Association rules.
The following exceptions apply:
Playing time: Each player will participate based on the coach’s discretion. Substitution can be made at any dead ball during the game.
Time Regulation: There will be (4) 8-minute quarters with a running clock. Teams will have 2-minutes between quarters. Each team will (4) 1-minute timeouts during the game. The clock will only stop the last 2-minutes of the game, on free throws, and on timeouts.
Overtime: There will be a 3-minute overtime period. The clock will stop on all whistles during overtime. If a game is tied after the overtime, sudden death will occur. The 1st field goal will end sudden death. Each team in overtime will receive one 1-minute additional timeout per overtime session.
Possession/Start of game
A jump ball will begin the game and overtime. Alternating possessions will take effect thereafter.
Defense
Ages 9-13: Any defense can be played during the game. Defensive players can pickup after the opponent crosses over half court. In the final quarter of the game, full court defense can be played. If a team is down by (10) points in the final quarter, they can full court defense.If the game is tied during during that final quarter, both teams will be allowed to full court defense the remainder of the game.
Fouls/Penalties
Individual and team fouls will be recorded throughout the season. Each player will be allowed (5) personal fouls per game which results in a team fouls as well. Technical fouls count as personal fouls to a player. The one and one bonus will occur after the 7th team foulof the half and double bonus will occur after the 10th team foul of the half.
Technical Fouls:
Players: If a player receives a technical foul, they must sit the remainder of the quarter. Two technical fouls during the game will result in an automatic ejection from the game and a one game suspension.
Coaches: Coaches receiving two technical fouls in a game results in an automatic ejectionfrom the game and a one game suspension.
Other Emphasis
(10) second backcourt: Teams will have (10) seconds to advance the ball past half court
(5) second in-bounds: Teams will have (5) seconds to put the ball in play from out of bounds
(3) second count in the lane: If an offensive player stays in the lane for more than (3) seconds during an offensive possession, the play will result into a turnover.
(5) second closely guarded: When a player is closely guarded for (5) seconds on the perimeter, the play will result into a turnover.
Coaches will be responsible for the behavior of their teams and parents.
Spectators
Fans are encouraged to cheer and support their team. All are expected to be courteous and be positive role models for all players. Spectators will respect coaches, players, game officials, and other spectators at the The Training Ground.
